ALMOND WINE AND FERTILITY by Licia Canton
Almond Wine and Fertility, a lyrical and moving collection of 15 stories, showcases Licia Canton’s ability to craft
entire worlds out of just a few pages. The author takes us to places where the fabric of human relations is woven: a bar in
Sicily graphically celebrating fertility, a park in east-end Montreal where cultural values clash, a river bank where the
course of two young lives is altered, a suffocating sixth-floor apartment with little way out for its occupant… The stories
in Almond Wine and Fertility, peopled with characters negotiating between languages and cultures, are imbued with sensitivity
and optimism. Set in cities and in suburbia, in Canada and in Italy, these stories explore the subtleties, the humour and the
complexity of modern life.
Licia Canton is a Montreal writer and the editor-in chief of Accenti Magazine. Her short stories and essays, in English
and Italian, have been published in anthologies and journals in Italy, the US and Canada. Almond Wine and Fertility is her
first collection of stories, and was officially launched at the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival in
May 2008. She holds a Ph.D. from Université de Montréal. She lives in Montreal with her husband and three children.

CITY OF SINNERS by D.C. Iannuzzi
In this well-crafted suspense novel D.C. Iannuzzi takes readers on a wild ride, as authorities attempt to thwart a bomb threat
instigated by an anonymous terrorist group dead-set against the Quebec government’s repressive anti-English language laws.
Iannuzzi turns Quebec’s separation debate on its head in this fascinating tale, where extremist political rhetoric has been
allowed to fester and the line between good and evil has been blurred.
D.C. Iannuzzi is a Montreal writer and an unabashed news and history junkie. Born and raised in Montreal’s Italian
north-end, he brings a unique perspective to the political and language debate that has raged in Quebec since the 1960s. D.C.
Iannuzzi earned an MBA and a Bachelor of Engineering degree at Concordia University and, when he's not contemplating the
darkness that lurks in men's souls, he earns his living as an Investment Advisor. City of Sinners is his first novel, and
was officially launched at the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival in May 2008.

MAKING OLIVES AND OTHER FAMILY SECRETS by Darlene Madott
Making Olives and Other Family Secrets showcases Darlene Madott’s mastery of the short story form. The eight stories in this
collection, skilfully fashioned and dextrously conveyed, explore some of life’s universal truths. Madott also pays homage to
her Italian-Canadian heritage, but never gratuitously. Instead, her complex storylines and flawed characters reveal a realism
that will not leave readers unmoved.
Darlene Madott is a Toronto lawyer and writer. Prior to entering law school, she worked on the editorial staff of
Saturday Night and Toronto Life magazines, and wrote book reviews for the Globe & Mail. Her publication of a collection of short stories,
Bottled Roses, by Oberon Press in 1985, coincided with her call to the Ontario Bar. In 2002 she won the Paolucci prize from
the Italian-American Writer's Association.
